Week 18

Aaaaaaaaaand this brings me up to date with the holiday craziness. More record earrings with sequins. This is what happens when I spend all my free hours sewing presents for christmas; too busy for Make a Thing, but only temporarily!

get them here if you like what you see

Week 17

Week 17th's Thing is a pair of little bell earrings :) I love tiny things! This is sort of a holiday themed pair, but not so much that they can't be worn whenever I guess. I do apologize for the awful pun I wrote in the etsy description, hehehe.

here they are on etsy

Week 16

Here comes the 16th Thing, more neat little record earrings. These aren't super dangly, just the right amount. And since the week before christmas Target's been getting ready to move onto Valentine's day so maybe these aren't too early for that.

You can buy them here

hey you guys!

Week 15

Week 15 is only a little late (christmas excitement!) which I sort of have no excuse for because I did crank out loads of earrings to make up for holiday rush. This week's Thing is a pair of monkey earrings made from the Barrel of Monkeys. I made 3 sets of these, all identical, and the monkeys are turned so that they look good as a pair and you don't have one good monkey and one backwards monkey.

Earrings are for sale on etsy, yey

Week 14

And here's Week 14 with another pair of earrings (I made loads of 'em in anticipation of being super busy with christmas projects). These are my second favorites after the rubber chickens and are suuuuper dangley. The gators themselves are a bit over 2 inches long and hang from french hooks.

If you like them, you know what to do :)

Week 13

At last, after a short holiday break, here is Week 13! This week's Thing is a pair of dangley chicken earrings. This is my favorite of the several pairs of earrings I made recently, so it seems fitting to list them first. Also, I made some snappy packaging for all the earrings; everything is mounted on cardstock with the etsy store name on it and a little graphic on the bottom. Lookin' fancy!

This Week's Thing will be postponed to the weekend due to holiday traveling and excitement. Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

Week 12

Hurrey it's Week 12 and I am still cranking out projects despite my current holiday sewing schedule! (Let's see how this goes 3 or 4 weeks from now, heh) This week's Thing is a purple fleece and sugar skull print scarf with serged edges. The sugar skull fabric came from Quilting Adventures.

I've been messing around with the Make a Ting a Week blog layout too. The top header is little slices of finished projects (bags, scarves, embroideries, costumes, pj pants, a corset, etc) and I'm working out a better background image but for now this one will work.

Week 11

Welcome to Week 11! Enjoy something PINK! I got the fabric for these legwarmers on a trip to Philly with my good buddy Crafty Lady Abby and made loads of fluffy things and still have scads of the stuff leftover.

You can buy the screaming pepto-pink legwarmers on etsy!

And just for fun, look what my surprisingly crafty husband made for me for our wedding anniversary! You know how much I love a mola mola :)

Week 10

For Week 10, I made another hat (as it's getting to be hat weather already). This one has a neon orange mohawk just for the hell of it :P

Buy the mohawk hat!

Still awaiting results of the Scarecrow contest I entered and also a pumpkin carving contest. Why is it taking so long, I'm impatient :P

Week 9

And yes, even though I'm uploading it mere minutes after Week 8, here is Week 9's Thing; an awesome tie dye scarf serged onto fleece backing. Just the thing to keep you warm and maybe a little bit green too as the tie dye part was upcycled from a great thrift store pillowcase find. I washed the daylights out of it, the tie dye is printed on the cotton so it doesn't fade out or bleed.

Buy tie dye scarf!

Week 8 (at last!)

So being the complete genius that I am, I didn't account for sickness in the course of making a thing a week. I usually don't get sick often anyways :P
So here is the late Week 8 Thing; the monster bag!

quick update

Week 8 will be temporarily postponed as I have spent the last 2 days sleeping in the bathroom trying to get over this stomach bug. Sorry for the beautiful imagery >__< Week 8 is halfway done, I started on it before getting sick. Some good news though: I had 2 etsy sales yesterday! I'm mailing them tomorrow because I can't make it to the post office today. It can't hurt that Make a Thing a Week is now updating on DeviantArt as well as facebook, twitter, and here.

Week 7

Welcome Mr Angryteeth! This was actually a previously made project for a previous Make a Thing that didn't get off the ground as well. I spent the past 2 weeks doing a massive reorganization of the sewing room and it's finally 97% done. Also with Halloween, a commission, and my 2nd wedding anniversary coming up (2 years is cotton, so I've been sewing my butt off) I've been a busy little craft monkey. I really want to make a bag of some kind for an upcoming Thing. But I'm getting off track again, here's Mr Angryteeth:

and as always, you can buy him here.

Week 6

Since this week it suddenly turned chilly in VA I decided to make a hat. Oh, but not just any hat, an owl hat! It's cute AND warm and for sale. There will be more of these hats in the future, oh yes :)

Oh! And if you have the chance before halloween, go vote for my scarecrow! Mine is the first one in the second row with the burgundy shirt, stuffed animals all over it, and the "Pet Center" sign in the background.

Week 5

This weeks Thing is 2 Things! I'm definitely working on more but my fingers were killing me. I just finished a big project for work which involved tons of sewing (and I don't even have a sewing job, haha) and it involved a bunch of hand-sewing of parts together. ANYWAYS, these Things are cute little fleece barrettes; a pterodactyl and my absolute favorite fish ever in the world - the ocean sunfish (mola mola)

I very nearly made a school of mola mola, and was actually watching a David Attenborough documentary on deep ocean waters while I made it. I want to make more! Ok, getting distracted again!

You can but the pterodactyl here and the mola mola here!

Week 4

First off, please forgive the simplicity of this week's Thing. I got quite a chomp from a green wing macaw and my left hand is still healing. Sorry sorry :P
I hope to be back on track next week :)

Anyways, onto the Thing!
This week's Thing is an etch-a-sketch ipod/iphone cover.

Week 3

This week's Thing is Toby the Derpasaur. I used to make loads of monstery things a few years back, but shifted more to clothing, costumes, bags, accessories, etc. It was nice to get back to this kind of thing though. I missed making stuffed creatures. So expect more in the future.

Week 2

This week's thing is a t-shirt scarf! Made from a thrift store treasure find (because it's in my genes to find good stuff at thrift stores, haha)

First Make a Thing a Week!

The first week in September means time to start up Make a Thing a Week! I just got back from Japan and it took longer than anticipated to get over jet lag (and the coming-back culture shock) so I went a little easy on my first project.

This Week's Thing:
small post apocalyptic bag, listed on my etsy shop
